What\'s in store for Delhi this elections

In the next few days, Delhi will be undergoing legislative assembly polls for the second time in the last 36 months. Nothing much has changed this time except a few candidates and their ideologies. With all major parties coming out with their vision statements and manifestoes, here are five common agendas that each party is bidding for a ‘better & liveable Delhi’ that may interest a property buyer in the city.

Regularisation of unauthorised colonies
This time unauthorised addresses have become a big poll agenda for all the three leading political parties. On one hand where Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) is trying hard as the Central Government has recently passed an ordinance on this regard, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and

Congress have also included this as a main agenda in addition to relaxation in norms for registering properties.

Impact: With over 1600 illegal colonies, legalising them won’t only be a step towards ‘Housing for All by 2022’ mission but would also restrict growth of slums in the city.

Making Delhi a ‘world’ class city

As a part of Dwarka, Rohini and Narela is already being considered to be developed as a Smart City, AAP, BJP and Congress have promised to provide upgrdaded and urban infrastructure to the entire city. In addition to this, AAP is also promoting their vision to make Delhi a ‘solar city’ through which they are also promising extra income by selling generated electricity to the grid.

Further adding to this, Congress has included ‘balanced development’ in their manifesto which talks about free movement of traffic and women safety, creating a safer environment in the city.

Impact: A world-class city comparable to international standards!

Clean Delhi

As ‘Swacch Bharat’ mission is picking up pace across India, the political parties in Delhi seem to use the concept for luring voters. Promising proper sewage system, zero drainage problems, toilet for each home as well as in common market places are some of the vows that leaders are making to impress voters. While Congress pledged more and more green buildings, AAP promised waste management and banning of plastic bags.

Impact: Your city will be greener and cleaner

Right to Shelter

While Modi’s affordable housing dream is in the process of becoming a reality, AAP president Arvind Kejriwal has also started talking about it. Taking advantage of the momentum, Congress is also talking about its plan of providing housing for the weaker section and has promised to deliver 25,000 flats under this category. In fact AAP has already identified 200 acre of land in the city which they have promised to utilise for the affordable housing mission.

Impact: Even the lower income segment of the society will have a home of their own, resulting in reduction of slums and a better quality of life.

Strengthening urban Infrastructure

Construction of new bridges, better healthcare, high-end security through CCTVs and more buses are some of the promises being made by all three parties while appealing for votes. In fact BJP has also included better lighting on pavements around markets and expediting the ongoing repair work to ensure more footfalls in their election advertisements. AAP going a step further involved the villages around Delhi to provide better infrastructure and basic facilities such as power and water.

So, with the elections in Delhi being fought on the issue of development, it seems the citizens of Delhi can expect a better city in future.
