Rs 16 crore infra projects for Gaziabad

Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) will undertake infrastructure projects worth Rs 16.09 crore in the city, funds for which will be made available by the state’s 13th finance commission.

A six-member high-powered committee headed by Meerut’s divisional commissioner held a meeting in the corporation’s Navyug Market headquarters cleared the funds. Projects include a state-of-the-art plant in the city to convert polythene waste into diesel products, to be set up at a cost of around Rs 2.4 crore. It will be the first of its kind in UP, said officials.

The projects also include works pertaining to water purification and supply, sewage disposal and waste collection and disposal.

The committee has approved around Rs 4.6 crore for an interim project for municipal solid waste management in the city.

Waste generated in the city will be disposed in accordance with the system set up through this project, till a permanent solid waste management plan is implemented in Ghaziabad. As per this temporary plan, around 400 metric tons of municipal waste a day will be disposed off in a scientific manner in the Pratap Vihar locality of Ghaziabad.

The interim plan has been prepared by the state-government undertaking Construction and Design Services, UP Jal Nigam, in consultation with a number of experts and agencies working in municipal solid waste management.

Around Rs 1.90 crore, approved by the committee under water supply projects, will be used to drill four new tubewells and re-bore nine existing tubewells, which will augment water supply to the city.
