Noida Extn homebuyers protest ‘extra charges’

Hundreds of flat buyers in Gaur City and Gaur City One met under the banner of Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA) on September 14 to protest the “additional charges” being allegedly charged by the realtor at the time of handing over apartments.

NEFOWA members said they have taken legal counsel and will move the Allahabad high court against the builder. The flat owners have apparently been asked to pay an additional Rs 50 per sq ft before the builder releases possession letters.

Calls made to Gaur by this correspondent on September 14 went unanswered.

The extra charges have been explained as “additional charges for land acquisition payments”. Buyers say they are not concerned about any extra land acquisition charges the builder may have had to pay, as the builder is liable to maintain rates as agreed upon at the time of booking of the flats.

“We got no valid responses when we asked for clarity from the builder about the exact reason for which these charges were being levied. The projects are already delayed by two years, during which, buyers have had to pay rents as well as EMIs. Another round of payments is punishing for buyers,” Shweta Bharti, general secretary of NEFOWA said.

Preet Bhargav, who has bought a flat in Gaur City, said, “Buyers feel the builder is forcing them at the last moment so that they feel obligated to comply, as otherwise, the registration of the flat would be impaired.”

“We have decided to take legal action against the builder as this is a breach of contract. At the time we booked our apartments, they had agreed not to add any more charges to the price of the flats,” Indrish Gupta, co-founder of NEFOWA said.

“The extra burden of close to Rs 1,00,000 being imposed on buyers is unjustified. We’re left with no option but to the legal one,” said Amarjit Rathod, who has bought a flat at Golf City.

“We’ve already taken legal advice and will file a suit against Gaur in Allahabad high court,” said Bharti.
