Metro to scale new high with Ghaziabad link

Travelling within the NCR will become fast and smooth with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation constructing a 9.6km elevated track to Ghaziabad in December. What makes the alignment unique–apart from passing through congested roads and linking Old Ghaziabad with Kashmere Gate–is the way station buildings will be connected with the viaduct. To speed things up, a steel bridge will connect the station buildings on either side of the alignment. The bridge will be supported only by pillars placed off the road, and adjacent to the station, but not in the middle.

A senior DMRC official said, “The station buildings will be on either side of the road–the alignment will Bh run along the central verge of GT Road.The building blocks Dilshad will be joined to a Garden steel bridge, which will bring people Jhilmil to the platform.”

While four stations will have two steel Anand bridges on one side, Vihar four will have a single bridge, the DMRC official added. The two sides of the station will be linked through a concourse-level passage.”This will be part of the unpaid area.”

The unusual design will T help complete the work t within two years. Typically, the viaduct is built Ra before the stations. But in this alignment, the viaduct and stations will come up together. The steel bridge will connect them at a suitable time.

This extension of the Rithala Dilshad Garden corridor will go through colonies like Shahid Nagar and Raj Bagh to reach the New Bus Adda in Old Ghaziabad. The align ment will have eight stations–Shahid Nagar, Raj Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park, Mohan Nagar, Arthala, Hindon and New Bus Adda. The UP government and the Centre will provide funds. The only similar station is the one in Kailash Colony on the Central Secretari at-Badarpur line.ndon An elevated road project of Base Ghaziabad Development Au thority will also go over the Metro alignment near the Metro alignment near the Hindon crossing. This road will have a clear ance for 7.5m from the Metro viaduct to the underside of road.

The 10km stretch will connect NH-24 with s Raj Nagar Extension.a According to reports, work is expected to begin on September 20 and finish by March 2017.

The elevated road will follow the path of Hindon Canal, starting 200m from NH-24 on the road turning towards Vaishali from UP gate and ending near Karhera in Raj Nagar Extension area. Midway, it will have an entry point at Kanavni and an exit towards the CISF camp.
