DDA scheme: No 80% quota for locals

DDA’s upcoming housing scheme received an ‘in-principle’ approval, with some changes in the original proposal, by the chairperson of the authority on August 21. One of the major changes made to the original proposal on August 21 was dropping the clause of 80% reservation in the flats offered to the residents of Delhi. This would make the housing scheme open to all residents of India without preference to any state, barring standard reservations for war widows, SC, ST, and physically handicapped applicants.

The proposal for the housing scheme, with most number of flats—25,600 ever offered by DDA together, was put before the chairperson of the authority, Najeeb Jung, in a meeting between authority’s directors. The other defining feature of this housing scheme, the huge Rs 300 corpus fund, has also been retained.

The number of single-bedroom flats being offered this time (24,044) is the scheme’s biggest component and also the highest to be offered by DDA.

The authority is now expected to formally announce the scheme in a press conference on Friday. Around 10 lakh brochures are expected to be sent for printing.
