Metro to make inroads into Noida, Indirapuram

In a move to boost up the connectivity and to ensure a smooth ride for commuters, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Noida authority have set the stage for metro to roll out to Greater Noida. The two have recently signed an MOU for the same. Metro connectivity in Noida got a big push recently with UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav clearing a major route--a 6.7km stretch from City Centre to Sector 62. The City CentreSector 62 link is a Rs 1,816 crore project. The link expected to be complete by 2017. The Noida authority chairman and CEO Rama Raman had been asked to set up a special pur pose vehicle called Noida Metro Rail Corporation and to enter into a memorandum of association and article of association with the company.

The UP government has also appointed DMRC as the turnkey consultant for putting both long-awaited projects on track.

For the City Centre-Sector 62 line, UP gov ernment and Centre will share the cost on an 80-20 basis. The City Centre to Sector-62 line will offer connectivity to sectors 32, 34, 35, Hoshiarpur, sectors 51, 52, 71, Greater Noida Extension Marg, Sarfabad, sectors 60, 61, 62, 63 and NH 24. The work for the construction of the same is likely to begin by in next couple of months.

The DMRC spokesperson said they would expedite the proposed Metro projects connecting Noida and Greater Noida with Delhi or other parts of National Capital Region (NCR).

“The Noida Metro Rail Company (NMRC) is about to be formed. Also, MOU with the DMRC has been executed. We will start work on the 30kmlong link next year,“ said Rama Raman, chairman of the Noida and Greater Noida authorities.

The work for the two metro extensions from City Centre to Noida Sector 62 and Greater Noida and is likely to be completed by 2017.

The news of Metro extension and making its inroads into Noida has also spelt some good news for both the residents of Noida and Indirapuram. With both the areas catering to affordable housing and mid segment, metro connectivity will just cat as a shot in the arm and up the real estate market.

The Sector 62 link which touches the NH-24 is also expected to have an impact in the property in Indirapuram as this like will vitally connect Indirapuram and will provide the residents with an option to use the metro.

Although there has been talks of extending the Vaishali Metro line, it has not happened so far.
