Smart township on cards for Greater Noida

A smart township is likely to come up in Greater Noida soon, with the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority on February 20 taking a major stride towards shaping the integrated residential colony.

Officials said the Authority viewed presentations of models by 13 leading architectural firms after inviting them to come up with proposals on how to carve out 90 acres of a mixed land use area to develop the smart township in Sector 24 of YEIDA area, which is adjacent to an upcoming electronics hub.

"The firm will be finalized within the next 2-3 months, after which the finalization of the concept plan for the area will be wrapped up. After this, the detailed project report will be firmed up.

Within the next six months, we will launch the designing and construction of the model area," PC Gupta, CEO of YEIDA, told TOI.

Once developed, the integrated township will not only meet employment needs but also provide residential space near to the workplace.

"The aim is to bring vitality to the city, safety to streets, foster social cohesion and generate environmental benefits. By putting residential, commercial, institutional and recreational uses in close proximity to one another, the goal is towards shaping YEIDA into a smart city," Gupta said.

He further said that the design of the area would focus on minimum distance between residential and commercial categories of land use. "Besides being integrated, the township is likely to be moulded on the work-to-work concept with pedestrian and cycle-friendly pathways," Gupta said.

He added, "In addition, it will provide a wide variety of services such as hospitals, schools, retail malls, entertainment facilities and security have been planned. Large expanses of open green spaces, green buildings and use of solar energy is also proposed.
