No more queues, house tax payment to go online

Delhi/NCR
If officials at the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) are to be believed, the municipality website will soon introduce online payment facility for submission of property tax and other fee.

A similar proposal was mooted few months back, but it failed to take off. Authorities, however, claim that things are better planned this time. “The tax department and the IT team have been meeting frequently. The idea is to revamp entire MCG website and make it more efficient and citizen friendly. Online payment gateway is part of this exercise. Our experience is that while most people are willing to pay property tax, many don’t do so just because they don’t want to stand in long queue and fill forms. Once online payment service is launched, we expect tax collection to go up significantly,” said a tax department official.

Soon, every property owner will be given a unique identification number. “He would be liable to pay taxes regardless of whether we send him a notice or not. The residents are supposed to deposit house tax before July 31 every year. Every violator will now be penalized,” added the official.
