India embracing green tech in big way

Delhi/NCR
The green building concept is gaining popularity in the corporate, institutional, and residential sectors where an increasing num ber of stakeholders acknowledge the benefits of green design and technology in the construction of buildings.

Green buildings promise well-ventilated working and residential space with threesides-open units and well-planned and landscaped parks along with provision for solar lighting for street lights in offices and grousing-projects in townships.

Realty projects incorporating alternate sources of energy can go a long way in stemming the depletion of resources. Many realty majors are ready to fulfil the aspirations of today’s buyers, who are not just looking at price points but are also looking at quality projects that are built using elements of a green project.

Today, the NCR regions are transforming into a promising market with better physical infrastructure. The testimony of this has been luxury projects shaping up well in Gurgaon and Noida. Development authorities like Noida have recently awarded 5% additional floor area ratio (FAR) to a number of developers who are coming up with green buildings.

India is emerging as one of the rapid adopters of sustainable building practices with third rank in the latest US Green Building Council report having 11.64 million gross square meters (GSM) of LEED-certified space.

The main objective of green projects being developed by private developers is to create energy-efficient, waterefficient, comfortable, healthy, and environmentally friendly buildings and homes.

Born out of this strong desire for ecofriendly and environmentally sustain able living, these projects offer welldesigned homes with the very best amenities. Customers now have the opportunity to own a home in certified green townships, rated under GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) in India. GRIHA attempts to quantify aspects like energy consumption, waste generation, renewable energy adoption, etc, so as to manage, control, and reduce wastage of resources to the best possible extent.

Also, ADARSH (Association for Development and Research of Sustainable Habitats)–an independent, registered society constituted by MNRE (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy)–monitors and selects the type of vegetation and trees being planted in these greenrated townships.

A numbers of realty majors like DLF, Ansal API, Ambience Group, SARE Homes, Chintels, Central Park Gulshan Homes, EMAAR MGF, SVP Group, Cosmic Group, Antriksh, Unnati Fortune, ABA Corp, Earth Infrastructure, etc, have launched green-rated residential and commercial projects in the NCR, especially in Noida-Greater Noida and Gurgaon. These forthcoming projects promise plug-and-play services where occupiers will not have to set their own infrastructure.
