Allot plots to Rohini applicants, SC tells DDA

Spelling partial relief for aplicants of DDA’s 1981 housing scheme, the Supreme Court on October 31 told the authority to complete the allotment process of 11,000 plots in Rohini.

While directing Delhi Development Authority, the apex court also said that allotment letters should be issued by November end, possession handed over by February and electricity be extended to the plots latest by June. More than three decades after DDA announced its scheme, nearly 25,000 of the original 83,000 applicants still have not received their plots.

“Even after DDA gives us our plots 13,000 applicants would still be left without plots. There is also a problem of the authority handing out smaller plots than promised against which we will appeal again in SC,” said Rahul Gupta, a petitioner.

Gupta said the authority originally offered plot sized at 90, 60, 48, 32 and 26 square metres. However, it was now giving plots of only 60, 32 and 26 square metres. “Also, DDA has not told us the order in which plots will be distributed,” said Gupta.

DDA officials said they were doing their best to provide the plots to the registrants as per court’s order. “We are confident of adhering to the order,” said Balvinder Kumar, DDA vice-chairman.
